He was tried for stealing w/1other, on 21 4 1784, woollen cloth of William (Mawhood) at Old Bailey on 24 4 1784, sentenced to 7years, held at London Gaol Delivery & arrived in NSW as a convict on 22 1 1788 after a voyage of 12months on First Fleet ship SCARBOROUGH; he was Protestant. He married Ann (Thomas) on 28 12 1790 at St Phillips CofE Sydney. He was Free by Servitude by 1795. He is recorded in 1828 as living with his family on 60acres at Kissing Point. He was tried for stealing lead w/1other, on 22 6 1784, of Thomas (Wells) at Old Bailey on 7 7 1784, sentenced to 7years, held at Middlesex Gaol Delivery, Newgate prison from 12 7 1784 & hulk CENSOR & arrived in NSW as a convict on 22 1 1788 after a journey of 12months on First Fleet ship SCARBOROUGH. He had a relationship with Lydia/Letitia (Munro) whom he married on 2 3 1790 at St Phillips CofE Port Jackson Sydney & produced 11children. On 4 3 1790 he & his wife & 1child were sent to Norfolk Island on HMS SIRIUS, arriving on 17 3 1790 (the date of its sinking on reef near Kingston Pier Slaughter Bay). On 1 7 1791 he was living on 1acre & in December 1791 on 12acres at Creswell Bay. In 1794 he is recorded as previously a farmer. His sentence having expired he & his daughters Mary & Sarah returned to Port Jackson on 5 3 1795 on FANCY to join his wife, returning on the same ship on 4 7 1795. On 16 10 1796 the family (wife & children?) returned to Norfolk Island on HMS SIRIUS where he is recorded as leasing 60acres no.64 of 60acres in middle of the island southeast of Queensborough in 1796. He was Free by Servitude by 1798. In February 1805 he is recorded as exconvict/settler on stores & in March 1805 he is recorded as a settler/land owner farming 23acres. He was farming 23acres on Norfolk Island on 26 12 1807 when the family with 7remaining children travelled to Derwent Van Diemens Land (Tasmania) as part of the first evacuation (for which volunteers apparantly had been called with appropriate compensation offerred & for which he may have tried to decline as some successful farmers were asked to stay) on HMS PORPOISE, arriving on 17 1 1808; he was later granted land at Clarence Plains/Roaches Bay. In April 1809 he was farming 46acres at Clarence Plains with William (Hawkins). He is recorded in Hobart Town as off stores on 2 10 1818. He died on 4 8 1835 age70or79 at Clarence Plains & was buried at St Davids CofE Hobart Tasmania. She was tried w/1other for stealing linen of James (Rolison) at Kingston upon Thames Surrey on 2/5 4 1787, sentenced to death by hanging reprieved to 7/14years & arrived in NSW on 21 1 1788 as a convict after a voyage of 9months on First Fleet ship PRINCE OF WALES. She was nearly raped by William (Boggis) with assistance of John (Owen) on 12 9 1788, being saved by Donald (Gordon). On 4 3 1790 she was sent to Norfolk Island with her family on HMS SIRIUS, arriving on 17 3 1790, (the date of its sinking on reef near Kingston Pier Slaughter Bay). Having served her sentence she & son John are recorded as returning to Port Jackson on 6 11 1794 on DAEDALUS; she was joined by her husband & daughter in March 1795. A source gives her return date to Norfolk Island on 31 10 1795 on SUPPLY. She was Free by Servitude by 1798. She is recorded as off stores on Norfolk Island in February 1805. On 26 12 1807 the family with 7remaining children travelled to Derwent Van Diemens Land (Tasmania) as part of the first evacuation on HMS PORPOISE, arriving on 17 1 1808; to Clarence Plains/Roaches Bay. She & 3of her children are recorded as off stores in Hobart Town on 2 10 1818. In the colony, Edward married Ann Thomas (Second Fleet Convict, Lady Juliana, 1790). They married at St Philips, December 28th 1790. I have so far, located 14 children to this union, born between 1791 and 1814.




EDWARD GOODWIN, THOMAS WILKIN, Theft > grand larceny, 21st April 1784. (oldbaileyonline.org t17840421-73) EDWARD GOODWIN and THOMAS WILKIN were indicted for feloniously stealing, on the 24th of April, one piece of woollen cloth, containing six yards and a half, value 50 s. one other piece, containing six yards and a half, value 50 s. the property of William Mawhood. THOMAS BURLAND sworn. On Saturday noon, as I was walking along I saw Wilkins walking in the street, he came out of the prosecutor's shop; he walked a little way before me, it was about eleven, or between eleven and twelve; he walked about two doors from the gentleman's house, and two men joined him, the other prisoner, and one that is not here; when I came even with them, they were conversing together, and when I came close to them, I heard the short one, Wilkins, say, he is coming out presently; the next witness, who was just behind me, heard them say, he is coming out presently; we went back and watched them, and I saw Wilkins come out of the door, and in a little time Goodwin went into the shop, with this parcel of cloth under his arm, I followed and held him, and called the next witness to secure the others; he was detained in the shop. William Brooksbank deposed to the same effect. The prisoner Wilkins called two witnesses to his character. EDWARD GOODWIN, THOMAS WILKIN, GUILTY. Transported seven years .
