National Archives. Criminal Petitions. Ref: HO 17/61/50 . Date: 1836 June 21. Prisoner name: Henry Hines. Prisoner age: 30 or 36. Court and date of trial: Suffolk Quarter Sessions, Woodbridge, January 1836. Crime: Receiving stolen meal. Initial sentence: Seven years transportation. Gaoler's report: Character indifferent. Married, five children. Annotated (Outcome): Nil. Petitioner(s): Robert Hines, the elder, and Elizabeth Hines, the prisoners' parents, and Robert Hines the younger of Ipswich, Suffolk, the prisoner's brother. Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): The prisoner is innocent; he has a wife and six children to support. Additional Information: Prisoner on board York hulk, Portsmouth. --------------------------------------------------------------------- In the above record, it is possible that "stolen meal" should have read, "stolen meat", but was mistranscribed. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Suffolk Sessions. Henry Button, for stealing sheep, the property of the above Mr. Flick, and Henry Hines, for receiving part of the mutton, were sentenced to transported—Button for life, and Hines for 7 years.
