Herbert and John Sly , for breaking open and robbing the Wilts and Berks Canal Lockhouse; Bath Chronicle, 8 Aug 1816 In the Hampshire Chronicle newspaper his name seems to have been mistakenly reported as John: Wiltshire Assizes. Monday, the Assizes commenced at Salisbury, ….John Herbert and John Sly were found guilty of a burglary in the house of John Brown, in Pewsham Forest, on the 25th of June last. Death. Received from New Sarum, 9 Oct 1816 (6 prisoners) William Herbert, age 27, convicted at New Sarum, 27 July 1816 of a felony, sentenced to transportation for life. NSW, 3 Dec 1816.
