Convict Notes
The Windsor Assizes commenced on Monday the 2nd instant, before Mr. Justice DOWLING. … the following prisoners were put upon their trials:— William Sherrard and Jeremiah Williamson were indicted, the former for stealing from William Phipps, at Portland Head, on the 26th March, 1830, various goods, his property. The latter for receiving the said goods, knowing them to have been stolen. Sherrard was being conveyed by the prosecutor to an iron gang in pursuance of a sentence, and the prosecutor, having occasion to remain a little behind, requested Sherrard to carry his bundle a little way and he would overtake him. The prisoner ran away with the property, and which found, together with the prisoner, concealed in Williamson's house. They were both found Guilty; Sherrard was sentenced to 7 years transportation, and Williamson to the same. Sydney Gazette, 14 Aug 1830.
