Convict Notes
At the Assizes at Winchester, before Mr. Baron WOOD, on Saturday last, Richard Rose, master of the Freeholder smuggling-boat, of Weymouth; John Bayte and George Davis, two of his crew; and John Goulding and Thomas Sims of Stanpit, near Christchurch; were tried and convicted upon an indictment charging them with aiding eight French prisoners of war, who had escaped from Andover, to quit the coast of Hampshire; and were sentenced by the Judge to be transported; Rose, as the master of the boat, for his natural life; and Bayte, Davis, Goulding, and Sims, for the term of seven years.
