New South Wales, Australia, Convict Indents, 1788-1842 for John Paget 1829 From Dublin single protestant who could read and write. 5' 1 1/2" ruddy complexion brown hair and blue eyes. Assigned to Col sec office New South Wales, Australia, Convict Applications for the Publication of Banns, 1828-1830, 1838-1839 for John Paget (Reel 3036). 24 Bond (life) Messenger in the office of the Colonial Secretary. Character described as good per ship John (2) to marry Julia Newman 21 free per ship Asia arrived 1824. Note: The father of the young woman is Corporal in the 57th Reg't The written sanction and approbation of the mother has been procured On 14/9/1830 entry says refused. Julia came free New South Wales, Australia, Gaol Description and Entrance Books, 1818-1930 for John Paget Sydney 1825-1832 9/10/1830 Fraudulently attempting to get a payment of 2 cheques on the bank of Australia by means of signed endorsements. New South Wales, Australia, Convict Death Register, 1826-1879 for John Paget 25 per ship John 11/4/1833 A Gamack Surgeon Hyde.Park Office.- John Paget was charged with stealing two cheques, drawn in favour of F. A Hely, Esq. on the Bank of Australia, each for £3 15s. The prisoner, was employed as a messenger in the office of the Honourable the Colonial Secretary, and, being sent with a letter containing the orders in question to Mr. Hely's office, he abstracted them, forged the indorsment of Lackey, the constable, (who he was aware generally cashed Mr. H's bills at the Bank,) enclosed them in a written envelope, wherein in the same name, he requested cash for the orders, and sent them by another person to the Bank. The money he obtained and appropriated to his own use. The Bench found him guilty, and sentenced him to three years labour at a penal settlement.
