Joseph MOBBS was convicted at Norfolk, England on 26 March 1836 for arson. Life sentence. Gaol report: "charactor good, bad connections". Life sentence. Hulk report: "good". Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship "Sarah" arriving 29 March 1837. Ship surgeon's report: "indifferent". Single man; aged 23yrs; farm labourer; dark complexion; dark hair; grey eyes; 5'3" height. Native place of birth: Tottington, Norfolk, England. (ref. convict record) Colony of VDL: To be employed with the Public Works, by order of the Secretary of State. 12 Jan 1838: Govt gardens: absenting himself from his duties. 6 days on the Tread Wheel. DEATH: Joseph MOBBS died 4th Oct 1839 at New Norfolk, VDL. Hospital patient. Aged 24 yrs. Ship to Colony - "Sarah". (ref. 34/1/2 no. 209)
