Convict Notes
Highway Robbery.—Yesterday week four young men of the names of Jas. Tattoo, Josiah Slater, Job Hulme, Jonathan Wheelton, and William Swindells, were examined before the Macclesfield magistrates on a charge of highway robbery committed upon a young man named Joseph Salt, in Church-street, West, on the night of Saturday the 30th ult. The prosecutor had been so maltreated, that he was unable to come out sooner to give evidence. The case was fully made out against the three former prisoners who were therefore committed to take their trials at our next assizes. Chester Courant, 23 April 1833. ---------------------------------------------------- HIGHWAY Robbery. James Tattoo, 20, Job Hawse, 17, and Slater were indicted for the highway robbery of Joseph Salt, at Macclesfield, on the 31st of March last, in very aggravated circumstances. ... Josiah had a younger brother Joseph who had been sentenced to seven years at Nether Knutsford, Cheshire, in 1847. Joseph arrived as an exile and arrived at Moreton Bay and had a TOL. Joseph died 16/8/1891 at Glebe, NSW., and was buried in the Old Methodist section at Rookwood. 1890: Josiah Slater died at Glebe, NSW.
