Sugar Cane, was a 403 burthen ton merchantman and convict ship that was dispatched in 1793 from Ireland to Australia. She was launched in 1786 upon the Thames River. Under the command of Thomas Musgrave, she sailed from Cork, Ireland, on 12 April 1793, with 110 male and 50 female convicts. During the voyage a mutiny by the convicts was put down and a convict executed. She arrived at Port Jackson, New South Wales on the 17 September 1793. Convict Notes

Recorded on the Muster records 1802, 1806 and 1811. In the 1806 Muster Mary is listed as wife of 'Joseph Kearns'. Joseph was a convict, Sugar Cane 1793. It is not known when this de facto relationship started. I can locate no children to the couple. They may have commenced the union on the ship when they were transported or even in Ireland before. They were both tried for stealing various materials in 1792 at Dublin, she in July and he in September. In the 1811 Muster there is no mention of any union with Kearns and by 1814 she is no longer mentioned at all. Kearns had by then married to Elizabeth Ready.
