Catherine MADDEN was convicted at King's County, Ireland on 22 Oct 1846 for receiving stolen property. 7 yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'Waverley' arriving 20 Oct 1847. Aged 30 yrs; single woman, 1 child; house servant; 5'3 1/4" height; sallow complexion; black hair; blue eyes. Native place of birth: Kings County, Ireland. Family: Mother - Catherine (ref. Convict Indent) Sisters - Biddy & Mary Brothers - James & Patrick (in America) VDL: 6 months Probation Period. Stationed on the 'Anson' ship hulk. 1849: assigned to James Chamberlain 1850: assigned to Mr. Davidson 28 Jan 1851: Ticket of Leave granted, but not allowed to reside in the Hobart area. 15 Oct 1853: Certificate of Freedom issued, New Town (nr Hobart).
