Mary HOY was a native of Barnsely, Yorkshire. Sentenced 14 April 1834 at York Qtr sessions for stealing money, 7 yrs transporation. From Ship's indent: 22 yrs, Yorkshire native, [maid of] Allwork, reads, RC, Single. A tiny 4ft 7", ruddy freckled, dark brown hair, hazel eyes. Has lost canine tooth in upper jaw. "Blue" left side of nose. From NSW Gaol entrance book in 1870 - "big nose, wide mouth, round chin". Probably assigned on arrival to Paterson Plains because that's where Edward Milsom was assigned and had an 1834 ticket of leave. 1836 - MARRIED Edward Millsome. aged about 27 (Mary about 24) at Cof E Maitland area Edward Millsome had arrived on "Sarah" in 1829, 7yrs for stealing geese with his then 44 y.o. mother Catherine Milson. She arrived in "Sovereign" forwarded to Mrs Wynter (lived Manning River). No children registered in NSWBDM. 1842 - Death of Edward's mother, Catherine “MILSON” “age 68” Move to Goulburn area. Goulburn Herald 22 March 1851: ASSAULT.—Edward and Mary Milsom appeared on summons to answer a charge of assault preferred by Susannah Armstrong. Complainant is housekeeper, &c., to one Cropper, a lime-burner, residing at Baw Baw, and defendants are in the service of Thomas Chamberlain, also a lime-burner, who resides on the same estate. On the morning of the previous Sunday, while complainant was sitting in Cropper’s house, the male defendant came in, and catching hold of her dragged her out; the female was standing by at the time, and he told her to pull up complainant’s clothes, She did so, and exposed her person in a scandalous manner. The defence set up was to the effect that defendants were continually annoyed by Cropper quarrelling with his “kept-miss,” and that defendants had been compelled to take the law into their own hands. They were fined ten shillings each with costs. “Empire” 8 May 1852 Edward Milsom fined for using indecent language SMH 21 July 1860: SMH 21 July 1860 page 1 IF this should meet the eyes of MATTHEW LAW. JOHN FRANCIS, EDWARD MILSOM or ELLEN FENTON or MARY HOY, all formerly of Parramatta, will they, or any other person In New South Wales, give any information of ROBERT NEWTON, who left England in August, 1839, has never been heard of since 1846, they will greatly oblige,and will be reasonably rewarded by return of post. (Matthew Law was a native of Yorkshire, likely all these people were) 1863 - Edward made a Conditional Purchase of 40 acres in Parish of Mummoll at Goulburn 1868 - Mary Ann Milsom in Bathirst Gaol for "insulting language". 14 days' gaol to 20 November 1868. 1869 Death of Edward “MILSOM” at Goulburn “age 69” (probably 60 yrs) Goulburn Herald 7 August 1869 - Intestate Estate of Edward Milsom, curator of intestate Estates instructing sale of 40 acre property at parish of Mummoll conditional purchase on 3rd December 1863, and ONE MARE. Mary goes downhill 1870 in Goulburn Gaol, offence not stated 1877 "Mary Ann MILSOM" (16 January) Goulburn Gaol for vagrancy, confined one month, discharged 19/2/1877 1879 Death of MARY “MILSON” "age 60 years". Would be aged 69 based on age on ship's indent.
