Committed to the County Gaol - Sarah Stevens and Elisabeth Macon, for receiving a silver snuff box and other silver and gold articles. properly of J.L.WInn. knowing the same to have been stolen; Hampshire Chronicle, 26 May 1834 Winchester Assizes.—The following completes the list of the prisoners and their sentences: John Vewer, James Wallis, Charles Russell, and John Williams, all lads, for a burglary, at New Alresford, in the dwelling-house of J. A petition to reduce her sentence to gaol time was rejected.




Elizabeth and her mother entered a plea to have her transportation amended to gaol time. Her good character and this being a first offence were given as reasons but the petition was denied
she may be my 3rd great grandmother? after her arrival in Tasmania in 1834,there is a record from 1836 reading she married a John Thomas Lewis who i have traced back to be my 3rd great grandfather.if this is the correct Elizabeth Mason is a relation of the Tate family in Australia
