"Ivers is from the town of Carlow, by trade a watch maker & of a very low education, but possessed of very good natural abilities, he got a tolerable education but converted it to a bad purpose. he was to have been a member of the Irish National convention & was acting immediately under Lord Edward Fitzgerald, when he was taken at Oliver Bond’s house in Bridge street Dublin, by the information of a man of the name of Reynolds, one of the conspirators, who struck by a remorse of conscience came forward and gave so much information, as frustrated the wicked, infernal and diabolical intentions of these selfcreated constitution makers. What a government would it have been? when Ivers from Carlow was one of its senators! " Journal of John Price kept on the convict transport Minerva (118 ff.) Saturday April 13 1799
