Thomas was the father of Captain Charles Pye VC. Thomas married Alice Hall in 1819 in Stafford, England and Mary Sampson in 1843 in Melbourne, Victoria. He was the father of twelve children. Thomas was employed by Captain Sylvester John Brown and later by his son, Thomas Alexander Browne (who wrote novels under the name of Rolf Boldrewood).
