On Thursday arrived from Calcutta, via Derwent, the ship Mary, Captain Ormon, with a various cargo. -Passengers from Calcutta, Captain Faithfull and Lieutenant Hamilton:-The Mary sailed from Calcutta the 23d of February, and left the Pilot the 1st of March. Daniel (Cowell) & Elizabeth (Kelly) produced 4known children: girls 1.Jane (Cowell) was born on 21 9 1799 & became a milker, butter maker & washer woman. She married firstly John (Quayle). She was tried with her husband & sister for stealing ribbon & lace of Mrs (Clarke) at Castletown Douglas Isle of Man on 27 8 1822, sentenced to 7years, held at Castle Rushen Gaol Delivery, presumably removed on 18 4 1823 on MAJESTIC to Liverpool & arrived in NSW as a convict (Jane (Quayle) with her son on 5 10 1823 after a voyage of 4months on MARY; she was Protestant 5'3" fresh complexion brown hair hazel eyes. He is recorded in 1822 with Conditional Pardon as overseer for Major (Druitt) at Parramatta. He is recorded in 1828 as a dealer with his family at Parramatta. By 1832 he held a licence to sell Wine & liquors at Parramatta. He arrived in Bathurst before 1840 & lived on 10acres at Solitary Creek. In 1844 he owned land at Raglan Creek with 'Fords Mill' for grinding wheat & flour. He died on 10 1 1860 age75 at Kelso & was buried at Holy Trinity CofE Kelso. On 4 9 1824 she was assigned to Anne (Evans) in Phillip St & in 1825 was working for Mrs (Peate) in Sydney. She had a first (1of4) relationship with Robert (Ivory)). She married secondly (2of4) Robert (Bogg his second marriage) boot & shoe maker emancipist with permission on 10 7 1826 at St Phillips CofE Sydney & produced 1child. She is recorded in 1825 with son Robert (Ivory) in Sydney & in 1828. She was issued her Certificate of Freedom 29/1831 0n 27 8 1829. She bought land in Elizabeth St Sydney & assigned it to James (Oatley) on 10 5 1831. She married thirdly (3of4) James (Oatley his second marriage 36years age difference) on 16 9 1833 (or 1838). In March 1837 her husband willed a house in Parish of St Lawrence Sydney & 'Newton' farm 40acres (which he annulled in September 1839 due to her adultery) to her-she had left her husband about March 1838, probably to live with James F. Hulle (whom she later married in 1841 at St Johns CofE Parramatta). Jane Quayle was born in the Isle of Man in 1799. Her husband, John Quayle, and her sister, Mary Cowell, were charged with theft of seven yards of ribbon and lace in 1822. The husband was acquitted but Jane and Mary were sentenced to 7 years in the colonies. They arrived together in Australia in Oct 1823.
