Convict Notes
I doubt he ever had a photo taken he was dead in 1850 before photography became available to ordinary people in Australia, let alone ones out in the lonely bush to poor to afford anything much.
He was one of 3 brothers (all transported) and their mother (hard labour in the UK despite her age) found guilty of stealing. My ggg grandfather Samuel's feet were too big for those found at the scene of the crime, so he was acquitted. I'd love to see Barry Hughes's photographs (grahamreallyis@gmail.com).
Robert James was my grandmother's grandfather. Her Sister, Dorothea Hardy, says that he died of pneumonia, [officially recorded as 14 Jan 1850] swimming into the Murrumbidgee to assist some men in trouble. I have photos of Robert if anyone is interested
