William Rolfe was born in Essex in 1831. He was convicted in 1848 and transported for stealing a silver spoon from his employer (second offence). He was sent out on the "Minden" arriving in Fremantle in 1851. He married Mary Ann Ayres in 1853 and they had 6 children. He is listed in the Dictionary of Western Australia as employing 2 men cutting sandalwood at Guildford in 1868. His wife left him to live with another man. He died in Fremantle in 1898. Although he had grand-children, none carried his name as they all went by the name of Mary-Ann's partner (another convict named George Ladhams)
