Research note: Conduct Record, upon arrival in VDL (Tasmania), link above - "Transported for stealing from the person. Gaol Report: In gaol before. Stated this offence - stealing from the person, a woman. 1 month for assault. Real name "Martin". Father Richard, a member of Parliament, been so for 20 years or so. Single. Ship Surgeon's report " behaved very ill onboard, excessively bad, an extremely dangerous woman". Personal details: plain cook & house servant; aged 22 yrs; 5'2 1/4" height; fresh complexion, freckles; reddish hair; Hazel eyes. Native place: Co. Galway (ref. Convict Personal details) Ref: The Founders & Survivors record basically confirms the transcribed details on this site. 1837 charges of drunkenness and pilfering. Sentence extended by 3 yrs. Sent to the Female Factory (?Hobart) for 12 months. Extension of sentence remitted by L.G. 15 May 1838: Died at the House of Correction. (ref. Conduct Record book) Details recorded in Govt memo.
Real name was Caroline "Martin". Father, Richard Martin, a member of Parliament for 20yrs, member for Galway. Single woman. Bad report on ship "excessively bad and dangerous woman". Arrived Van Diemens Land. Two reports of drunkenness. Sentence extended by 3yrs, but later recinded. Ordered to be kept at the Female Factory for 12mths. Died at the House of Correction 15 May 1838.
