Convict Notes
Thomas Hailstone was 47 years old on arrival. He was born in Stitchford, Worcestershire. Thomas was 5’ 6 ½” tall, fresh complexion, brown to grey hair, grey whiskers, hazel eyes, could read and write, widowed with 8 children. 2/4/1850: TOL 3/2/1852: CP 16/3/1853: COF 24/11/1856: Married Jane Peeling, a widow aged 51 – he was listed as a widower, farmer, aged 55. Marriage registered at Brighton. 28/11/1870: Thomas died - Death Cause: died from wound inflicted upon himself when in a fit of D.T. 1/12/1870 The Mercury, Hobart: Death in the Hospital.-The man Thomas Hailstone, who was admitted to the General Hospital on the 20th November, having some days previously attempted to cut his throat, has succumbed to the effects of the injury inflicted. An inquest will be held.
