Convict Notes
Thomas Smee was the brother of Robert Smee (Susan 1837 VDL). Thomas was transported for ‘Stealing Harness”. Thomas was 23 years old, 5’4 ¾” tall, dark complexion, very dark brown hair, brown whiskers, hazel eyes, dog inside right arm, Woman and either a T or I inside left arm, single. 15/12/1843: TOL 17/11/1846: Recommended for CP 12/7/1848: TOL – Launceston Examiner. 4/8/1852: Steerage passenger per ‘Waratah’ Launceston to Melbourne. Free by Servitude. Ship to Colony, Eden. There are reports that this Thomas Smee died in 1852. I found a report of Edward Smee aged 38 and a Thomas Smee aged 1 died in a drowning accident in 1852 – don’t think this was the above ‘Thomas’. There was also another Thomas Smee who was an Irish immigrant in Victoria about the same time, he was around the Bendigo area, so a little confusing. Found nothing further on Thomas.
