8 July, 1857: He was sent to Chatham, a public works prison for male convicts east of London, at St Mary’s Island, in Kent (https://www.prisonhistory.org). On the record of “male transports” from Portsmouth Convict Establishment, per Nile to WA, he was listed as 23 / #1101, 14 years old, single, a labourer, illiterate and convicted for bestiality. His behaviour in separate confinement and public works jails was “good” and “very good” respectively (Western Australia, Australia, Convict Records, 1846-1930; Convict Department, Registers; Convicts Transported Per Nile (R32)). --00--

7 June, 1856: He was admitted to Portsmouth as inmate #3371. He was listed as 14 (his age when convicted), illiterate, CofE, a labourer, single and sentenced to 14 years' transportation for bestiality -- "felony with a certain pig". Next of kin was his father, Richard Arrowsmith of Newtown, Whitchurch. A notation on his record says "A Brother ... has been convicted of felony and sent to a Reformatory School." 4 October, 1855: He was transferred to Millbank gaol, at Westminster in London. George Arrowsmith served 8 months 3 days in separate confinement at Millbank (UK, Prison Commission Records, 1770-1951; Millbank Prison; Register of Prisoners to 1885). —0—
