Francis Freer and Janet Disher were my Great Grandparents, my mother was Daisy May Freer, their Granddaughter from Northern Tasmania
Francis was my gggrandfather. He was granted his ticket of Leave on 5 July 1850 and his ticket of Freedom on 5 February 1853. He married Janet Disher (mispelt Wishart, she left her mark X, by the minister)on 6 May 1856 at Deloraine, Tasmania. In 1859, a fellow convict, John Lovell, from the Palmyra was arrested for bushranging and used Francis' name in the hope of escape. That full article is pasted to John Lovell's page if approved by this site. Francis and Janet had the following 5 children: William Francis born 30 Nov 1861 (my ggrandfather) James born 10 May 1864 John born 2 Nov 1866 Jessie Diana born 9 Nov 1873 Francis George (Frank) born 15 Nov 1878. The Freer's lived around the Port Sorrell and Northdown districts of Tasmania. Francis died on 20 May 1902 at his residence in Northdown Tasmania and Janet died on 27 Nov 1909 also in Tasmania. Janet Freer (nee Disher) was a free immigrant arriving on the Ship John Bell (Captain Alexander) Greenoch to Hobart arriving 4 December 1855 carrying 207 passengers. Janet then travelled via steamer Duncan Hoyle to Launceston with 100 other immigrants from the John Bell. Janet arrived in Launceston 9 December 1855. Regards. Grant James Woodbridge August 2011.
