22 July, 1859: From the Perth Gazette, p3: "POLICE COURT DESECRATING THE SABBATH, &C. Joseph Harrison, J. Ryan, C. Mack, and J. Nailer, all t.l.'s were charged with being out after hours on the 2nd inst., in the house of Mrs Bonner, and also with disturbing the neighbourhood in which they were, by singing songs, &c, on the Sunday morning. The Bench, after severely reprimanding the prisoners on the impropriety of their conduct in profaning the Sabbath, and for their frequenting a house of such bad repute as Bonner's, fined them in the sum of 5s each." NEWSPAPER report of his trial: 21 August, 1852: From the Liverpool Mail, p6: "GARROTTE ROBBERY, WITH VIOLENCE. Joseph Harrison was indicted for having assaulted and violently robbed Thomas Raise, sidewaiter, of Liverpool, on the 8th of May last. The prisoner was found guilty, and his lordship, after observing that such was the prevalence of offences of this kind, that he (a judge of assise) feared, after the heavy business of the day, to take airing in the open streets of Liverpool, lest he should be abused by a set of villains, sentenced the prisoner to seven years’ transportation."
