Nottingham Review and General Advertiser for the Midland Counties Nottinghamshire, England 10 Apr 1840: JAMES RILEY, aged 25, was indicted for stealing, on the 4th of January, a gown-piece, tghe property of Fanny Collishaw........cont'd...Verdict, Guilty. A previous conviction at the Derbyshire sessions, in October last, was put in and proved, for stealing a hart, and for which he was then sentenced to two month's imprisonment. A second charge was preferred against the prisoner, for stealing a pair of boots, the property of George Hook ; and also a bible, the property of Wm. Simons. The boots and bible were stolen by the prisoner from his lodgings in Millstone-lane, and offered for sale the same night, the 4th of January, by the prisoner, to John Martin. Guilty.___To be transported for the term of his natural life. On the "Justitia" Hulk at Woolwich. James Riley was listed as 25 years old on arrival. Native Place: County Carlow. James could read, was RC, single, 5'2¾" tall, ruddy and freckled complexion, brown hair, hazel grey eyes, eyebrows partially meeting, scar on left eyebrow, scar on back of right thumb, legs hairy.
