ADM 101/42/8B/11841 Folio 1: Title page; A copy of the daily sick book of Her Majesty's chartered convict ship Layton employed in conveying prisoners from England to Hobart Town between the 9th March and the 6th September 1841. Alexander McKechnie MD Surgeon Superintendent. Folios 12-15: John Rodgers, aged 18, Convict; disease or hurt, bronchitis. Put on sick list, 9 May 1841. Died, 28 May 1841. While on board the Warrior hulk the previous winter, he had 'ruptured a blood vessel in his lungs' carrying a load of timber in the dockyard. He was very unwell for most of the winter and repeatedly in the hospital. He had only been out of hospital a few days before embarkation and was threatened with extra punishment if he told the surgeon he was unwell at inspection. After death an inspection of his body took place and the findings are noted.
