Joseph SEVERN was convicted at Leicester on 1 July 1839 for stealing 2 books. Previous offence. 10yr transportation sentence. Gaol Report: "temper and disposition appears good. Behaved well in prison". Hulk Report: "good". Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the 'Asia' arriving 6 Aug 1840. Married man, 25yrs of age; Protestant; can read & write a little; a tailor; fresh complexion; dk brown hair; dk brown eyes. Native Place: Ashby, Leicester, England. VDL Conduct Record: 15 mths Probation Period. Prisoner Barracks; Browns River. 12 Jan 1842: Larceny. Existing sentence extended 2 yrs. Further offences and punishments. 30 Oct 1851: Free Certificate
