Convict Notes
Maria had been brought up to the Assises on a number of occasions for shoplifting (1843) and robbery (1845) (she was discharged with a caution) November 1845 with shop robbery of a roll of ribbon (again discharged for insufficent evidence) then stealing Silk Handkerchiefs. Her remarks after she was sentenced to transportation was "Thank you old fellow for sending us out so cheap, I hope ye'll sit there till we come back". Maria was the elder daughter of John & Alice McCorney (Corney) from Kirkgate, Leeds Yorkshire. Siblings were William, Alice and Priscilla. Maria married John Christopher Andrews in Longford Tasmania in 1848. Maria passed away 1904 at Craddoc Tasmania.
