Claims

"Richard Perry was born in the County of Warwickshire, England in 1817 At the age of 22 he was arrested for stealing fowls and sentenced to 7 years transportation to the NSW Colony. He was not a very tall, his height being recorded as just a ¼ of an inch under 5 feet tall. His physical description as recorded on the convict ship, “John Barry’s” indent, describes him as being of dark pale complexion with hazel eyes, and with dark brown, almost black hair. Further characteristics recorded on his record, state – Richard was tried at the Stafford Assizes on June 7, 1837 and his occupation was stated as that of an indoor servant and groom. He was a protestant, and he could read but not write and he was not married. Upon arrival in Australia, Richard went through the usual convict processing system. At one time his convict was noted as “bad”. There were several convicts who came to Australia between 1820-1840s, who went by the name of Richard Perry, and it should be noted that some researchers have attributed incorrect convict records to Richard Perry who arrived in 1839. Richard married / partnered with Sarah Patrick, sometime in the 1840s. More than likely after Richard had completed his sentence in 1844. Sarah was the daughter of William Patrick and Sarah Sunderland. Together, Richard and Sarah had 4 children, before Richard died in 1851. Richard died under sad circumstances after he had a fall from his horse at Tarana, west of Lithgow. His death at age 34, was July 26, 1851 ."
