Convict Notes
In March 1836 at the High Court of Justiciary, Thomas Breckenridge stood trial for culpable homicide of his mother aged 84 years - on 26 January 1836 in the house at Duncan Street, Drummond Place, he attacked Jean Kay or Breckenridge by 'forcible squeezing or compressing her' resulting in none fracture ribs, whereby she died on 28 January 1836. The deceased had gone to live with her granddaughter at Duncan Street, and the accused had come to take her forcibly back to his home - see Legal Report in Swinton (1838) Report of Case Before the High Court and Circuit Court of Justiciary in Scotland from November 1835 to December 1837, Volume 1, p 153 for Case No.25 HMA-V-Thomas Breckenridge.
