Passengers, Mr. Capon, Chief Constable of the Island, Mr. and Mrs. Davies, Surgeon and Superintendent, Dr. Thomson, R. N.; brings also some Commissariat stores. Court and date of trial: Perth Circuit Court [Perthshire] 6 September 1828. Crime: Uttering forged notes. Initial sentence: 14 years transportation. Gaoler's report: Character, connexions and former course of life good. Never in prison before. Annotated: Inform the Lord Justice Clerk that I entirely concur in his view of the case. Petitioner(s): Thomas Scott, the prisoner. Grounds for clemency: The person from whom he received the notes, John Stewart of Denhead [Fife], has absconded; he is in a weak state of health and has a wife and two children dependent upon him; the verdict was reached by a narrow majority.
