Thomas Thorpe was convicted of stealing various items from Sarah Sankey. His parents lived at 96 East Street, Manchester Square. They petitioned for a mitigation of his sentence, on the basis that he was married with a child and had been out of employment for some time. In Hobart, he was appointed a constable and later Inspector of weights and measures. He married Leah Solomon in 1844 and they had five children.
