The Windham and General Hewett left England the 24th of August, in convoy with the Wansted, Capt. Moore, who sailed from hence last Thursday for Batavia; the General Hewett arrived at Rio the 17th of November, and sailed again the 2d of December. Together with the military detachments, she received on board for this Settlement 300 male prisoners, of whom we are sorry to report the death of 35, whose names we shall endeavour to procure an account of, and publish in the next Gazette, for the information of their friends and families in Great Britain. Derby Mercury Thu 7 Jan 1813 p. 3 Text: John Marlow, James Barker, Richard Selby, and William Simpson, all of Bulwell, frame-work knitters, charged with feloniously and bulgariously breaking and entering the dwelling-house of Mr. Stephen Watson, at Watnall, on Wednesday the 23rd of December, and stealing thereout, money and other articles, are all fully committed to the county gaol at Nottingham

In 1828, Richard married Catherine Delaney (Convict, Rolla, 1803). He was aged about 39 and she was 48, with several children from two previous relationships with Thomas Green () and Patrick Delaney (). Both these previous partners were deceased. Catherine and Richard are recorded on page 338 of the 1828 Census... Silby, Richard, 39, G.Hewett, 1813, L, Labourer, Pitt St Sydney [S0904]. Silby, Catherine, (no age), Rolla, 1814?, 7, [S0905]. Also recorded were four of her children, with surname Green and listed as lodgers with Richard Selby.
